About DESIGN 350

I am Nicole.
With a career as an executive in Talent and People Operations, I am also a creative, maker, and scientist at heart. Baking is the perfect hobby that allows me to balance my love for precision and experimentation with my artistic muscle--hence Design 350, which is an opportunity to share my passion for artful baking with you via my website and blog.

While I love to dabble in cakes and other pastry experiments, my go-to treats are decorated sugar cookies and macarons. I also make seasonal jams from the fruits in my backyard, as well as at the local farmers' markets. My jams are not only given as gifts, but are oftentimes found in my macarons.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area where I spend much of my time dreaming up new flavor combinations and works of edible art while sitting in traffic.
DECORATED SUGAR COOKIES
I pipe them. I paint them. I airbrush them. I add three-dimensional embellishments to them. I can even turn a cookie into a one-of-a-kind portrait. And everything on them is edible. "But do they taste good" is a question I am often asked. I get it. I have also tried many cute, but really bad tasting decorated cookies. It is so sad and disappointing, but it doesn't have to be that way. I promise.
Design 350 Cookie Stencils
All stencils are custom designed by me and cut from food-safe acetate. The stencils 5.5" square, fitting perfectly into a Stencil Genie. These stencils are great for both airbrushing and scraping thick royal icing. Silkscreen and custom stencil options can be available upon request. Just contact me on my website form!

Macarons
You'd think a simple cookie of almond flour, sugar, and egg whites would be easy to make. Anyone who has ever tried to conquer these knows that is anything but the case. After much trial and error--and lots of batches that went straight to the compost bin--I cracked the code on these finicky little bites of amazingness by creating my own recipe that offers a crisp shell with a soft interior, and is not as cloyingly sweet as most macarons can be.
